This audio and video demonstration area is
designed to showcase the latest web media technologies. QuickTime,
RealPlayer, and Microsoft Media all
require the user (the person browsing the web) to download and properly install software
on their computer before they can view and listen to the media content. Only GEO
Java provides instant access to web site media content without a separate
plug-in.There are minor differences
in image and sound quality between these products. All of these products are capable of
delivering "streaming" media at modem rates as low as 28.8 KBPS,
which is the most popular modem speed among average users (4th Quarter 1998). First-time
users should be prepared for small image windows and low frame rates that produce playback
at quality levels far below broadcast television. Despite these shortcomings, the ability
to deliver audio and video on-demand over plain old telephone lines is still very
attractive and beneficial for marketers.
May we suggest you begin by clicking on
either the "Welcome Message" or the "Technology Comparison" to listen
to examples of streaming audio. (Of course your computer must have a sound card and a
java-enabled browser (such as Netscape or Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher). You must allow
time, about 15 to 20 seconds, for the audio to load the first part of the file (buffer)
before you will hear sound.
After that, try the two sample GEO Java
Movies. Again, you must allow time, about 30 to 45 seconds, for the media file and a few
small java components to be loaded before you will experience the media. This will give
you a place to start before you try the other products. Remember, before you can
experience the QuickTime media you must download and install the necessary plug-in.
