Presenting the work of Art Quilting Artist, Julie Ries
Busch Stadium - Our Fields of Dreams

Close up of one of the seven panels comprising a quilt measuring 62' by 8'6" when complete.

"Work began as the wrecking ball made its first swing and began to stir up many memories. This center piece features Busch Stadium as we remember it and is surrounded by hand dyed 'photos' and an opening day/last game banner. This panel also contains the title banner -Our Fields of  Dreams".

AMERICAN LANDSCAPES
(66 PIECES)
24 X 20
2003

"
While researching items for the large National quilt, the scenes from our national parks were catalogued in the back of my head for future use. After the national piece was finished, I began to experiment with fabric dyes. With a little practice, I learned how use resists and other methods and could almost "paint" with the dyes. The landscape scenes came to mind as I played with the dyes. A series of hand dyed and hand quilted 'photo like' pieces, all 24" x 20" were designed to complement the National Experience quilt. To add to the photograph effect, all pieces were finished with a thin white border and actual photo mounting corners."

HARLEQUIN
40 X 40
2002

"The colorful patchwork costume of a harlequin is captured in this work. If you look closely, you'll find traditional quilt block patterns hidden within the vibrantly colored materials used. Multicolored wisps of thread lend to the frivolity invoked by the jester. Variegated rayon thread appliqué work and gold thread quilting were incorporated to complement the harlequin effect."
